Love is a Game

Love is a game? – or is it?

The game of love, love is a game I often hear people say though this doesn’t fully resonate for me.

A game implies there should be a winner and a loser, surely when two people approach their relationship from a place of love they will be aiming for the same goals and on the same team as opposed to different teams and different goals. This also brings other questions, which is when they’re on the same team going for the same goal who is the opposition? Who or what do they have to defeat?

To write as if love were a game, I remember when I was in high school one week one of the sports teachers was off sick, so they joined the boys lesson with the girls lesson with just the one teacher. We all walked into the sportshall, the teacher gave us a round ball and there was a hoop at either end, everyone said they knew how to play the game as they had played before, boys last term & girls this term.

As we started to play arguments started to happen as if world war 3 was coming, the referee kept going nuts with the whistle every time one of the lads started bouncing the ball and running with it towards the hoop or goal at the opposite end of the hall. The girls kept shouting at us and saying we weren’t allowed to run with the ball. Did our teacher teach us
